After some very nauseating rides at Playland, we both weren’t feeling quite well probably from the lack of food. This was quite close to where we were so we went here out of convenience and of course some good reviews on urban spoon.
The restaurant came as a surprise. We weren’t expecting the crowd, lineups and the noise level. Thankfully, we only waited ten minutes for a table because their service is incredibly fast. Quite childish to say, but I could’ve sworn they’re like ninjas.
It took us a few minutes to decide on what to get. Beebs chose the alaska combo, chopped scallop, and toro nigri sushi. I decided on yaki udon and unagi roll. Beebs walked off to the washroom and by the time he came back, almost everything was served. For a starving couple, I was quite pleased with the service. I was expecting mediocre sushi quality because it was made so quickly. False. I don’t like raw food and more specifically, seafood. But I loved everything except the toro nigri which Beebs liked. The alaska roll melted in my mouth. It had a hint of sweet-ness and didn’t have the typical strong “fishy” taste in raw salmon. The scallop roll was fresh and sweet. The only other scallop roll I ever tried was at Honour Roll at UBC so I don’t have much to say. Beebs doesn’t like unagi so I had that all to myself. I wish there was less rice, but the eel still had a very prominent flavour - nice and savoury? The yaki udon was delicious. I love how the beef was a little burnt and crusted (this is actually a personal preference) which I thought brought out the flavour. It was perfect to balance out all the seafood we were having. Our tummies were definitely happy after the meal.
When we got our bill we were surprised that it came under $30 for the amount of food we got. It’s actually quite good for the money you pay. I would definitely come back again…especially recommended for casual dates.
